Open Outlook Express. At the top of the page click on the Tools menu and then select Accounts...
Click on the 'Mail' tab at the top. Click the account name highlight the problematic email account and click on the Properties button.
Make sure your name and email address are listed on this screen. The Reply address is only needed if the user wants to specify an address other than the email address.
Click on the 'Servers' tab at the top.
Fill in the fields accordingly:
  • Incoming mail: mail.bluevalley.net (Take note if it says POP3 or IMAP next to Incoming mail.)
  • Outgoing mail (SMTP): mail.bluevalley.net
  • Account Name: Full email address (ex: john@bluevalley.net)
  • Password Enter the password for the email account.
  • Leave the Log on using Secure Password Authentication box UNCHECKED.
  • Check the box that says My server requires authentication at the bottom.
Click the Settings... button to the right.
This small window will pop-up, make sure the dot is in the first option, Use same settings as my incoming mail server and click the OK button then click on the Advanced tab at the top.
On the Advanced tab, fill in the fields accordingly:
  • Check BOTH boxes on this screen that state This server requires a secure connection (SSL)
  • Outgoing mail (SMTP): 587
  • Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP): 993 for IMAP, 995 for POP

Click OK and then Close to get back to the main Outlook Express screen.
