Open Outlook 2013. At the top-left of the main email screen, click on the File menu.
Click on the large Account Settings near the center, this will drop-down a button that also says Account Settings, click that. (Very redundant.)
Click on the account name in the white box to highlight the account we need to edit, then click Change... near the top.
Fill in the fields accordingly:
  • Your Name: Enter your name.
  • E-mail Address: Enter the full email address. (ex: john@bluevalley.net)
  • Account Type Drown-down: Select IMAP or POP. (IMAP is preferred.)
  • Incoming mail server: mail.bluevalley.net
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.bluevalley.net
  • User Name: Full email address (ex: john@bluevalley.net)
  • Password: Enter the password for the email account.
  • Do NOT check the box stating Log on using Secure Password Authentication.
Click More Settings... near the bottom right.
This window will pop-up and will be on the General tab by default, so click on the Outgoing Server tab.

Check the box that states My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and make sure the dot is selected next to Use same settings as my incoming mail server.

Click on the Advanced tab.
Fill in the fields accordingly:
  • Check BOTH boxes on this screen that state This server requires a secure connection (SSL) (One or both of these may be drop-downs instead of check-boxes. SSL/TLS is also fine.)
  • Outgoing mail (SMTP): 587
  • Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP): 993 for IMAP, 995 for POP

Click OK and then Close to get back to the main Outlook Express screen. Click the OK button.
They should now be back to this screen. Click Next. Outlook will likely run a test to confirm all of the settings work.
Click Finish to complete the process.
